Rosary Meditation for Hysterectomy Surgery

A Prayer for Healing, Acceptance, and Trust in God’s Providence

Opening Prayer

Most Holy Mother, I consecrate this Rosary to your maternal care and ask for your powerful intercession as I prepare for surgery. I place my body, my fears, and my future into the hands of Jesus Christ through your immaculate heart. Grant me the grace to trust in God’s perfect plan, to accept His will with peace, and to experience His healing power during this time of physical and spiritual need.

The Joyful Mysteries

The Annunciation

Scripture Reference: Luke 1:26-38

The angel Gabriel came to Mary with news that would change her life forever. She did not understand how this could happen, yet she said “yes” to God’s plan without hesitation. In this mystery, we see how Mary accepted what she could not control, trusting that God would provide the way forward. As you face this surgery, you too are called to accept what your body needs, to say “yes” to medical care, and to trust that God works through the skill of doctors and the love of those who care for you. Like Mary, you need not understand every detail of what lies ahead, only that you are held in God’s hands.

Prayer: Holy Mary, Mother of God, I ask you to help me receive this surgery with the same openness and trust that you showed at the Annunciation. Help me to say “yes” to healing, even when I am afraid. Give me courage to face the unknown and faith to believe that God’s wisdom guides every moment of my care. Help me to see this surgery not as something to fear, but as an opportunity to surrender my will to God’s perfect plan. Through your intercession, grant me peace that surpasses all understanding.

Fruit of the Mystery: Obedience to God’s will and acceptance of what we cannot change.

The Visitation

Scripture Reference: Luke 1:39-56

Mary, carrying the Christ child within her, traveled to visit her cousin Elizabeth. This journey required effort and trust. Both women encouraged one another in their faith and their callings. In this mystery, we remember that we do not walk alone. You too have family, friends, and a faith community who stand with you. Like Mary visiting Elizabeth, you can turn to those around you for support and encouragement. The bonds of love and Christian community become your strength during this time. Allow others to help you, to pray for you, and to accompany you through this experience.

Prayer: Blessed Virgin Mary, as you visited your cousin and brought her comfort, I ask you to help me accept the support of those who love me. Guide my family and friends to stand beside me with compassion and strength. Help me to be honest about my needs and to receive their care with grace. Give me the courage to ask for help when I am struggling, knowing that allowing others to serve me honors the body Christ has given me. Help me to experience this time as an opportunity to deepen the bonds of Christian love.

Fruit of the Mystery: Acceptance of community support and willingness to receive help from others.

The Nativity

Scripture Reference: Luke 2:1-20

In Bethlehem, Mary gave birth to Jesus in humble circumstances. She brought new life into the world through pain and vulnerability. This birth brought joy and hope to all who witnessed it. Your body, too, has the capacity for strength and resilience you may not yet realize. Like Mary giving birth, you are engaging in a profound physical experience that requires courage and trust. Though this surgery involves loss of a part of your body, it is also a passage toward healing and freedom from pain or disease. Through this difficult passage, Christ’s healing grace works in ways you will come to understand.

Prayer: O Mary, you knew the pain of childbirth and the vulnerability of motherhood. Help me to see my body as a sacred vessel that God has blessed and sustained. As you brought forth the Savior into the world through your body, help me to trust that my body is capable of healing and that God works through medical science to restore me to wellness. Grant me the strength to endure what must be endured and the faith to believe that on the other side of this surgery, I will know new freedom and new life. Let this be a birth toward healing.

Fruit of the Mystery: Trust in the strength and resilience of the human body and God’s power to heal.

The Presentation

Scripture Reference: Luke 2:22-40

Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple to present Him to the Lord. Simeon and Anna recognized who He was, and Simeon told Mary that suffering would pierce her heart. Yet Mary trusted God even knowing pain was coming. In this mystery, you offer yourself and your body to God. You present your surgery, your recovery, and your future to His care. Like Mary, you do not know all that lies ahead, but you place your trust in God’s providence. This act of presenting yourself to God is an act of faith and surrender that connects you to the communion of saints who have walked similar paths.

Prayer: Holy Mother, you presented your Son to the Lord and received prophecy of suffering to come. Help me to present my whole self to God, including my body with all its limitations and needs. Help me to release my anxiety about the future and to trust that God holds every moment of my recovery in His hands. As you stood firm in faith even when facing hardship, give me strength to face this surgery with confidence in God’s love and care. Help me to see this medical intervention as a way of honoring and caring for the body God has given me.

Fruit of the Mystery: Surrender of our plans to God’s providence and trust in His wisdom.

Finding in the Temple

Scripture Reference: Luke 2:41-52

Mary and Joseph lost Jesus and searched for Him in great distress. When they found Him in the temple, He was about His Father’s business. Mary pondered these things in her heart, storing up understanding of her Son’s purpose. In times of medical crisis and uncertainty, we too may feel lost or confused. But God has not abandoned you. Like Mary, you may need time to understand what is happening and why. Trust that God has a purpose in all things, even when that purpose is not immediately clear. This surgery is part of God’s plan to restore you to health and wholeness.

Prayer: Blessed Virgin, you experienced fear and confusion when Jesus was lost, yet you trusted in God’s plan for His life. Help me when I feel lost or uncertain about what lies ahead. Give me the patience to wait for understanding and the faith to trust that God is working in my life even when I cannot see His hand. Help me to ponder these things in my heart and to come to acceptance and peace. Teach me to find Jesus in my suffering and to understand that He walks with me through every moment of this surgery and recovery.

Fruit of the Mystery: Patience in seeking understanding and trust that God guides all things toward good.

The Luminous Mysteries

The Baptism of Christ

Scripture Reference: Matthew 3:13-17

Jesus came to John the Baptist and was baptized in the Jordan River. The Holy Spirit descended upon Him like a dove, and the Father’s voice proclaimed His beloved Son. This mystery shows us that even when we go through difficult passages, we are claimed as beloved children of God. Your surgery marks a passage in your life, a transition through water and difficulty toward healing. Like Christ at His baptism, you are deeply loved by God the Father. His Spirit rests upon you, strengthening you for what you must endure. You are not facing this alone.

Prayer: Loving Father, as You claimed Jesus as Your beloved Son at the Jordan, I ask You to remind me that I too am Your beloved child. As the Holy Spirit strengthened Jesus for His ministry, strengthen me for this surgery and recovery. Help me to feel Your presence with me in the operating room and in every moment of my healing. Wash away my fears as the waters of the Jordan washed over Jesus. Let me emerge from this experience renewed in body and spirit, knowing more deeply that I am loved and cared for by the God who created me.

Fruit of the Mystery: Assurance of being God’s beloved and strengthened by the Holy Spirit.

The Wedding at Cana

Scripture Reference: John 2:1-11

At a wedding celebration, Jesus turned water into wine when the hosts ran out. Mary asked Jesus to help, and He responded to her request. This mystery reminds us that Jesus cares about the everyday needs and concerns of His people. He meets us not only in great spiritual moments but also in the ordinary struggles of life. Your surgery and recovery are not too small for God’s attention. Bring your worries, your pain, your hopes for healing to Jesus through Mary’s intercession. He listens and responds with compassion.

Prayer: Jesus, at Cana You responded to Mary’s request and saved the celebration from embarrassment. I ask through Mary’s intercession that You will hear my prayers for healing and wholeness. Help my doctors to have wisdom and skill. Help my body to respond well to treatment. Help my family to remain hopeful and strong. Just as You provided abundance at the wedding, provide me with all the grace I need to face this surgery and to heal fully. Let this be a time when I experience Your miraculous care and provision in concrete, healing ways.

Fruit of the Mystery: Faith that Jesus hears our prayers and responds with compassion to our needs.

The Proclamation of the Kingdom

Scripture Reference: Mark 1:14-15

Jesus went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the good news that the kingdom of God had drawn near. He called people to repent and believe this good news. In facing surgery, you are invited to trust in the good news of God’s kingdom, where healing is promised and wholeness is possible. Your body is not your enemy, and illness or physical limitation is not your final fate. The kingdom of God is breaking into your life through the skill of medical professionals, through the love of those who care for you, and through the grace of Christ working within you. Believe in the possibility of healing.

Prayer: Jesus, You proclaimed that the kingdom of God is at hand and invited all to believe in good news. Help me to believe in the good news of my own healing. Free me from despair and help me to trust in the power of God’s kingdom to restore me to health. Give my medical team wisdom and skill. Give my body the ability to heal well. Give my spirit the courage to believe that I will recover and that my life is not defined by this illness or this surgery. Help me to see beyond this moment to the fuller life that awaits me.

Fruit of the Mystery: Hope in God’s power to bring healing and wholeness.

The Transfiguration

Scripture Reference: Matthew 17:1-8

Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain and was transfigured before them, revealing His divine glory. The disciples saw Jesus as He truly was, radiant with God’s light. Moses and Elijah appeared with Him, representing the law and the prophets. This mystery invites us to see beyond the surface of things to the spiritual reality beneath. Your body, though it needs medical care and will go through the trauma of surgery, is also a dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. Beyond the pain and difficulty, there is a deeper reality of God’s presence and glory. You are being transformed through this experience, becoming more aware of your dependence on God and your connection to all who suffer.

Prayer: Jesus, You showed Your divine glory to Your disciples on the mountain. Help me to see beyond the fear and pain of this surgery to the deeper truth of Your presence in my life. Help me to recognize that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and that even in difficulty, God’s light shines within me. Transfigure my fear into faith, my anxiety into peace, my despair into hope. Help me to trust that just as You were transformed on the mountain, I too will be transformed through this experience, emerging with deeper faith and greater reliance on Your grace.

Fruit of the Mystery: Recognition of God’s presence in all circumstances and transformation through faith.

The Institution of the Eucharist

Scripture Reference: Matthew 26:26-29

Jesus gathered with His disciples for the Passover meal. He took bread and wine and gave them new meaning, making them His body and blood. He invited His disciples to eat and drink, to be nourished by Him. In the Eucharist, Jesus gives Himself as food for our journey, as strength for the way. As you prepare for surgery, the Eucharist offers you spiritual nourishment and the presence of Christ within you. If possible, receive communion before your surgery. Let Christ’s body and blood strengthen you, comfort you, and unite you to His redemptive suffering. Through the Eucharist, you join with the whole communion of saints in offering yourself to God.

Prayer: Jesus, in the Eucharist You give Yourself to us as food and drink, as a gift of love and healing. Help me to receive You with reverence and gratitude before my surgery. Unite my suffering with Your suffering on the cross, that it might not be empty or meaningless but filled with redemptive purpose. Let the grace of the Eucharist flow through me, healing not only my body but also my spirit and my heart. Help me to remain connected to You and to Your love even in the midst of pain and difficulty. Let this surgery be transformed by my participation in Your death and resurrection.

Fruit of the Mystery: Strength and spiritual nourishment found in Christ’s presence within us.

The Sorrowful Mysteries

The Agony in the Garden

Scripture Reference: Matthew 26:36-46

In Gethsemane, Jesus prayed in such anguish that He sweated blood. He asked His Father if it were possible to let this cup pass from Him, yet He surrendered His will to the Father’s plan. Jesus knows your fear and anxiety. He does not ask you to pretend courage you do not feel. Rather, He invites you to bring your honest prayers, your real fears, and your deepest anguish before God. Like Jesus in the garden, you can say, “Father, I am afraid. I do not want to go through this. Yet not my will but Yours be done.” This honest prayer is the beginning of true peace.

Prayer: Jesus, in the garden You experienced such deep anguish that You sweated blood, yet You remained faithful to the Father’s will. Help me to bring my fears and anxieties honestly before God. I do not want to pretend to be brave when I am afraid. Help me to cry out to God with my real emotions, trusting that He hears and understands. Help me to surrender my will to God’s plan, not because I understand it all, but because I trust that God loves me and will not abandon me. In my anguish, give me the grace that sustained Jesus: the grace to obey and to trust even in the midst of fear.

Fruit of the Mystery: Honesty in prayer and surrender of our will to God’s perfect plan.

The Scourging at the Pillar

Scripture Reference: Matthew 27:26

Jesus was brutally scourged, His body torn and bleeding. He endured this suffering willingly, not because He deserved it, but out of love for us. Your body will endure trauma in surgery, but this trauma is intended for your healing, not your punishment. Jesus bore our pains so that we might know that suffering is not meaningless punishment but can be transformed into love. When you experience the pain of surgery and recovery, you are invited to unite that pain with Christ’s suffering, offering it for your own healing and for the healing of the world. Your body’s pain becomes a prayer.

Prayer: Jesus, You suffered the scourging, Your body torn and bleeding, bearing the weight of our sins and our suffering. Help me to bear the pain and difficulty of surgery with the grace You won for us. Help me to understand that the trauma my body endures is not punishment but a necessary path to healing. Help me to join my suffering to Yours, knowing that through this union, my pain is not wasted but becomes redemptive. Give me the strength to endure what must be endured, and help me to experience Your presence and comfort even in moments of greatest pain.

Fruit of the Mystery: Understanding that suffering borne with faith becomes redemptive and meaningful.

The Crowning with Thorns

Scripture Reference: Matthew 27:29

The soldiers placed a crown of thorns on Jesus’ head, mocking Him and causing Him pain. Jesus received this cruelty with patience and love. In our suffering, we too often feel mocked or misunderstood. Some may not understand why this surgery is necessary or important. Others may minimize your experience. Jesus knows what it is like to be treated with cruelty when you are vulnerable. Yet He responded with forgiveness and love. Let His example teach you to endure misunderstanding with patience and to forgive those who do not comprehend your experience. Let the suffering of this time refine you like gold in fire.

Prayer: Jesus, You were crowned with thorns and mocked in Your suffering, yet You responded with love and forgiveness. Help me to bear misunderstanding and judgment with patience. Help me not to be bitter toward those who do not understand what I am experiencing. Give me the grace to forgive those who minimize my suffering or fail to support me as I need. Help me to see my own pain as a participation in Your redemptive suffering, and help this experience to refine my character and deepen my compassion for all who suffer. Let me emerge from this time with a heart more tender and more loving.

Fruit of the Mystery: Patience in misunderstanding and the grace to forgive those who hurt us.

The Carrying of the Cross

Scripture Reference: Matthew 27:32

Jesus fell under the weight of the cross and required help to carry it to Golgotha. Simon of Cyrene was conscripted to help. In your own struggle, do not hesitate to let others help you carry your burden. Your family, your friends, your medical team, and your faith community are called to be your Simon of Cyrene. Accepting help is not weakness but wisdom. Jesus did not refuse Simon’s help, and neither should you refuse the support that others offer. Allow your burden to be shared. This is the meaning of the communion of saints: we bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Prayer: Jesus, You fell beneath the cross and received help from Simon of Cyrene. Help me to accept the support and care of those around me. Help my family and friends to know how to support me well. Help me to be specific about what I need and to receive their help with gratitude rather than shame. Help me to understand that in accepting help, I am not burdening others but allowing them to share in the works of mercy and love. Let this experience deepen the bonds of love between me and those who care for me. Help me to remember, in times when others need help, the gift it is to be allowed to serve.

Fruit of the Mystery: Humility in accepting help and willingness to share our burdens with others.

The Crucifixion

Scripture Reference: Matthew 27:50

Jesus died on the cross, giving His life completely for our salvation. His death seemed like an ending, but it was truly a beginning. His resurrection followed, transforming death into life. Your surgery, while it involves loss, is not an ending but a transition toward healing and new life. Like Christ on the cross, you are invited to let go completely, to surrender your body and your future into God’s hands. And like Christ, you will experience resurrection, emerging into a new phase of life, healed and stronger. This mystery invites you to trust that God can bring life from death, healing from loss, and hope from suffering.

Prayer: Jesus, on the cross You surrendered everything into the Father’s hands, saying, “Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit.” Help me to make this same surrender, giving my whole self—body, heart, and spirit—completely to God. Help me to trust that in letting go of fear and control, I am not abandoning myself but entrusting myself to the One who loves me most. Help me to see this surgery not as an ending but as a death that leads to resurrection, a loss that opens the way to new life and healing. Let my body be healed and let my spirit be renewed by the power of Christ’s resurrection working in my life.

Fruit of the Mystery: Complete trust in God and confidence in resurrection and new life.

The Glorious Mysteries

The Resurrection

Scripture Reference: Matthew 28:1-10

On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead, triumphant over death and sin. The stone was rolled away, and new life burst forth from the tomb. This mystery is your hope. Just as Christ rose on the third day, so will you rise from the difficulty of surgery to new life and healing. Your body has the capacity to recover and to heal. Medical science, combined with God’s grace and your own body’s miraculous healing powers, will work together to restore you to wellness. Believe in resurrection. Believe in new life. Believe that you will emerge from this surgery stronger and healthier than before.

Prayer: Jesus, You rose from the dead on the third day, conquering death and sin and opening the way to eternal life. I believe in Your power to bring life from death and healing from suffering. Help my body to heal well after surgery. Help my wounds to close and my strength to return. Help me to experience genuine healing, not just physical recovery but emotional and spiritual healing as well. Give me confidence that I will return to the activities and relationships that bring me joy. Help me to see my recovery as a participation in Your resurrection, a share in Your triumph over death and destruction.

Fruit of the Mystery: Hope in healing and confidence in the power of resurrection.

The Ascension

Scripture Reference: Acts 1:9-11

Jesus ascended into heaven, returning to the Father and sending His Spirit to His disciples. Though physically absent, Jesus remained present through the Spirit. Similarly, God does not abandon us in our suffering. Though we cannot always feel His presence, He remains with us through the Holy Spirit. After your surgery, in the midst of recovery, the Holy Spirit will be your Comforter and your Advocate. You need not face the future alone. The Spirit of Christ will guide you, strengthen you, and help you to grow through this experience. Like the apostles who waited for Pentecost, wait for the gift of the Spirit to come upon you with power and grace.

Prayer: Jesus, You ascended to the Father and sent Your Holy Spirit to be with us always. Though I cannot see You, help me to trust that You are present with me through Your Spirit. Help the Holy Spirit to comfort me during recovery, to give me wisdom in my choices, to guide my healing, and to help me to grow spiritually through this experience. Help me to wait for and receive the gifts of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and all the fruits that will sustain me. Help me to remember that I am never truly alone, for the Spirit of Christ dwells within me and guides my steps.

Fruit of the Mystery: Assurance of God’s abiding presence through the Holy Spirit.

The Descent of the Holy Spirit

Scripture Reference: Acts 2:1-4

At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples with power, filling them with courage, wisdom, and the ability to proclaim the good news. The same Spirit that transformed timid disciples into bold witnesses is available to you. The Spirit empowers us to face what we fear, to speak what needs to be said, and to live courageously in difficult circumstances. As you prepare for surgery, ask the Spirit to fill you with courage and peace. Ask for wisdom as you make decisions about your health. Ask for the ability to communicate your needs clearly and to advocate for yourself. Let the Spirit transform your fear into faith.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, at Pentecost You filled the disciples with courage, wisdom, and power. Fill me with the same gifts as I prepare for surgery and recovery. Help me to speak clearly with my medical team about my concerns and my needs. Give me wisdom to make good decisions about my health. Give me courage to face what lies ahead without being controlled by fear. Help me to proclaim my faith in God’s healing even in moments of doubt or difficulty. Fill me with the fruits of Your Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Let Your power work through me, transforming my fear into faith.

Fruit of the Mystery: Courage and empowerment through the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The Assumption of Mary

Scripture Reference: (Catholic Dogma)

Mary was taken body and soul into heaven, assumed into glory by God. This mystery reminds us that our bodies matter to God. Our physical selves are not shameful or disposable but are precious and destined for eternity. The Church honors Mary’s body by celebrating her Assumption. Similarly, your body deserves respect and care. This surgery is an act of respecting your body, of caring for it, of honoring it as a temple of the Holy Spirit. Like Mary, your body is destined for resurrection and glory. You are not merely a spirit trapped in a body, but a whole person—body, mind, and spirit—loved and valued by God.

Prayer: Blessed Virgin Mary, you were assumed body and soul into heaven, honored and glorified for all eternity. Help me to see my body as you are seen: as precious and worthy of respect and care. Help me to honor my body by receiving the medical care it needs. Help me to care for it with gentleness and gratitude after surgery. Help me to understand that my body is not my enemy but my companion on this earthly journey, destined like yours for resurrection and glory. Help me to recover well and to live my remaining years in gratitude for the gift of physical life. Help me to see this surgery as an act of love toward my own body.

Fruit of the Mystery: Honor for the body as a sacred gift and recognition of its destiny in eternity.

The Coronation of Mary

Scripture Reference: (Catholic Tradition)

Mary was crowned as Queen of Heaven and Earth, exalted in glory and honor. She now intercedes for us as our most powerful advocate before the throne of God. As you recover from surgery and move forward with your life, trust in Mary’s powerful intercession. She will advocate for you before God. She will help you to grow in faith and in love. She will accompany you through your recovery and beyond. The one crowned as Queen of Heaven stands beside you as a loving mother. Pour out your heart to her. Ask for her prayers. Trust in her maternal care and her powerful intercession.

Prayer: Most Holy Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, you are crowned in glory and seated at the right hand of your Son. As our Queen, you have compassion for your children who suffer and struggle. I ask your maternal intercession for my complete healing—physical, emotional, and spiritual. Help me to recover well from surgery. Help me to experience renewed strength and vitality. Help me to find meaning and purpose in this experience. Help me to grow in faith and in love. Help me to become the person God has called me to be. Crown my recovery with success and my life with joy. Stand beside me as my Queen and my Mother, interceding for me before the throne of God.

Fruit of the Mystery: Powerful intercession of Mary and confidence in her maternal care.

Closing Prayer

Most Blessed Mother, I thank you for accompanying me through all twenty mysteries of the Rosary, bringing me into deeper communion with your Son and with the entire communion of saints. I ask you to continue to intercede for me as I prepare for this surgery, during the operation, and throughout my recovery. Help me to live out the lessons I have learned through this meditation: to trust in God’s providence, to accept the help of others, to surrender my will to God, and to believe in healing and new life. Let this surgery mark a turning point in my health and in my spiritual life. Help me to emerge from this experience with renewed faith, deeper compassion, and greater love for God and for all people. I place my complete trust in God’s hands, knowing that I am held in His infinite love. Through your intercession, may I be healed in body, mind, and spirit, and may I give glory to God for all His mercies. Amen.
